Walk about sleepy hilltop villages sampling local wine and goat cheeses, touring markets, caves, and castles. End on a cool, windy note with an early morning drive to the summit of Mont Ventoux. In villages, nearly every home boasts a cypress tree to the north, a Provencal welcome sign, and every town is big enough to support a bakery and bistro with an alley-like stretch of ground for "boules", the region's favorite pastime.
